MFC opts for the precision of Lectra’s new VectorFashionMH to guarantee high-quality products to its customers
Benefiting from the advantage of its geographic proximity to
Europe, Tunisia has become a sub-contracting specialist. The
majority of its manufacturing companies are fully dedicated to
exportation, and their main customers are European. Nevertheless,
the abolition of textile quotas, and the resulting increase in
competition, has prompted Tunisian manufacturers to search for ways
to deemphasize their role as simple subcontractors and to propose a
more complete offering to their prime contractors. Located at La Marsa, near Tunis, MFC (Marsa Fashion Company) is
a manufacturer specialized in knitwear and weft clothing for women.
Created in 1998, the company produces two million pieces per year,
mainly for the French brand Morgan, and also for La
Redoute. "One of the particularities of Morgan is their selection of
especially fine, delicate fabrics, which are really difficult to
cut and require extreme precision," explains MFC’s Production
Manager, Nizar Halouani.
Unparalleled cutting speed
In order to apply perfect cutting quality to all the garments it
produces, MFC decided to invest in Lectra’s new VectorFashionMH.
This investment completes the company’s Lectra equipment which
already includes pattern-making and marker-making solutions,
Modaris & Diamino, as well as two Brio spreaders, the Optiplan
cutting room management solution, and a Vector automated cutting
solution. "The cutting speed of the new VectorFashionMH is far
superior to that of the previous generation of Vector,"
affirms Nizar Halouani. "Our production has doubled in the past
six years, we have 120 different styles to manage every week and we
cut an average of 20,000 pieces per day, so speed is a very
important factor for us.” Designed to treat the thickest spreads, the VectorFashionMH
offers an optimization of cutting time superior to all other
systems on the market, thereby streamlining the cutting phase.
Less space between pieces, more material savings
rime contractors demand a great deal of rigor, concerning
deadlines to respect and quantities of materials allotted for a
given number of pieces to cut. "Our activity is based on what we call 'raw edges', meaning
garments for which the bottom, cleanly cut, remains
unfinished," explains Nizar Halouani. "The precision of
the cut plays a very important role in the quality of these types
of products. With the previous automated cutter, we needed to
have spaces of four millimeters between cut pieces in order to get
a neat, clean cut. Now, with the VectorFashionMH, we can reduce
this space to just one millimeter, which allows us to reduce fabric
consumption considerably." MFC, which cuts up to two million meters of fabric per year,
thus gains three centimeters on each spread, yielding a significant
economic benefit. "The VectorFashionMH is also capable of cutting much thicker
spreads," continues Nizar Halouani. "We have gone from 60
to 80 layers, which allows us to be much more productive. And
though it’s somewhat anecdotal, the VectorFashionMH is also less
cumbersome and quieter than the previous cutter. It's a beautiful
machine, which we’re proud to show to our customers!"
"We have reduced the space between cut pieces from four to just one millimeter thanks to the precision of the VectorFashionMH."
