An advanced response to the needs of small-run furniture manufacturers
Located in Forlì, Italy – home to a cluster of innovative small
furniture companies – Sedes Divani is a designer and manufacturer
of upholstered fabric and leather sofas, chairs and bedding. Sedes was launched in 2001 with just 15 employees. The company
adheres to the great traditions of Italian furniture design while
at the same time reaching continually for new innovations, both in
terms of product design and the technology needed to convert its
ideas into furniture that is both stylish and
comfortable. The obvious need for innovative technology partners quickly led
Sedes to Lectra, whose Formaris Furniture pattern-design and
Diamino Furniture marker-making solutions have enabled Sedes to
optimize its product development phase. “With these Lectra’s solutions we have greatly accelerated
product development,” said Sedes President, Maurizio Curcio.
“We can create and visualize models before production, which
eliminates the need to make multiple physical prototypes and
therefore allows us to save a great deal on material costs,”
he added.
An advanced response to the needs of small-run furniture manufacturers
Lectra’s product development applications enable Sedes to
visualize products-in-the-making and show them to customers early
in the product development cycle. Recently the company, which had
previously performed all cutting by hand, decided to adopt
automated cutting. “We had always cut fabric by hand, but we realized that it
was necessary to move to automated cutting to boost productivity
and keep up with our expanding demand,” said Maurizio
Curcio. Already satisfied with the performance of its Lectra product
development solutions, Sedes began working with the
VectorFurnitureFX, from Lectra’s newest generation of automated
cutters dedicated to the furniture industry. “We didn’t have any automated cutting specialists in the
company, but Lectra experts provided excellent support and the new
VectorFurnitureFX was up and running in very little time,”
continued Maurizio Curcio. Versatile and precise, the VectorFurnitureFX solution provides
the market’s most advanced response to the needs of small-run
furniture manufacturers such as Sedes. “The intuitiveness and flexibility of the VectorFurnitureFX
allows us to smoothly handle a variety of orders,” said
Maurizio Curcio. “We can move quickly between cut-to-measure
pieces and larger quantities or from one fabric to another, because
the machine can be quickly programmed to adapt to the
particularities of each cut plan. What’s more, the precision of the
VectorFurnitureFX has allowed us to reduce space between pieces,
and we’ve noted a savings of up to 3% on fabric
consumption.” With the automation of its fabric-cutting operations (leather
cutting continues to be done by hand), Sedes has strengthened its
ability to satisfy growing customer demand and position itself for
further success. “We are very pleased with the VectorFurnitureFX,”
concluded Maurizio Curcio. “Its flexibility and user
friendliness made it easy to integrate into our manufacturing
process, and the improved cutting quality and productivity have
boosted our ability to satisfy customer demand and ensure the
continued success of both Sedes and our customers.”
