May 10, 2006 Lectra presents ProSpinFashionST, its new agile cutting solution dedicated to prototyping and short runs, at IMB 2006

Cologne, May 10, 2006 – Lectra, the world leader in software, CAD/CAM equipment and related services dedicated to the fashion industry, will present ProSpinFashionST, its new single-ply cutter at the IMB 2006 trade show in Cologne, Germany from May 10 to 13. ProSpinFashionST ensures higher-quality production with a new cutting technology and reduces time-to-market and running costs with processoriented piloting software.

ProSpinFashionST is the ideal solution for product engineering departments, as it accelerates the prototyping or sampling processes,” says Pierre Michel Richer, Lectra’s Cutting Room Marketing Manager. “It is also the right choice for manufacturers seeking to optimize their cutting room activity by assigning multi-ply cutters to high volume orders while reserving the single-ply system for short runs.”

A response to the flexibility demands of fashion players

The fashion market is increasingly influenced by consumer requirements. Accelerating product time-tomarket and optimizing the product development process has become essential. In this context, flexibility is crucial.

Dedicated to prototyping as well as small series production, ProSpinFashionST is a single-ply cutter with a fixed table available in different widths and multiple lengths that adapts perfectly to different work environments. Its modular length gives ProSpinFashionST great flexibility, allowing several pieces of material to be cut consecutively, thereby enabling non-stop production. Three cutting tools make the ProSpinFashionST a highly versatile cutter suitable for a multitude of applications.

With ProSpinFashionST, companies can produce more prototypes and shorten their  production cycle. Technical feasibility and cost forecasting are improved, and feedback from the field can be taken into account earlier in the cycle, permitting a reduction of time-to-market.

New technology for unmatched quality

ProSpinFashionST benefits from the technology developed for Lectra’s proven cutting room solutions. It provides the highest cutting quality level ever achieved by single-ply systems thanks to its new vibrating blade and improvements in the cutting of curves and complex shapes. This characteristic, combined with a compartment vacuum system, ensures satisfactory productivity, regardless of the shape of the pieces. It rapidly and accurately cuts a variety of flexible materials used in the apparel industry, as well as plotting and cutting cardboard cutouts.

Thanks to the Mosaic option, unique to Lectra which has received worldwide recognition, a digital camera with associated light enables the detection of the actual position of the motif and allows the cutter to process fabrics that need to be matched, such as stripes, plaids, and prints. It analyzes the exact position of motifs on the cutting surface, analyzes distortions, modifies markers and the geometry of pieces in real time based on the fabric’s physical characteristics, and automatically launches the calculation and cutting process.

”The result of more than 30 years of R&D investment in close cooperation with Lectra customers, this new ProSpinFashionST symbolizes the innovation that we bring to them,” said Lectra CEO, Daniel Harari. “Fully integrated with Lectra’s software and CAD/CAM equipment, this single-ply cutter is part of a complete and coherent solution for prototyping and short-run production.”
