Polimoda strikes a fine balance between Italian savoir-faire in design and the practicalities of production while maintaining a global viewpoint.

According to The Business of Fashion, Polimoda is ranked among the top ten schools in the world and number one in Italy.

Polimoda began in 1986 as a joint project with the State University of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, and was co-financed by the municipalities of Florence and Prato, and several other business associations. Polimoda provides students with high-quality professional training.

The school caters to 1500 students in two different locations in Florence: a Renaissance-style building in Villa Favard and a state-of-the-art Design Lab in Scandicci. 70% percent of the students are international, and have travelled great distances to benefit from Polimoda’s world-class teaching methods. Polimoda’s teachers are often practitioners who have worked all over the world. Their work experience  is a vital resource for the institute as teaching methods are developed based on real-world scenarios which consists of implementing projects that address the current challenges of today’s fashion marketplace.Polimoda’s partnership with Lectra started in 2013.

“Thanks to this partnership, we've been able meet the growing demands of the fashion industry, especially when it comes to keeping up with new technologies. A growing number of companies are looking for young talents who are already well-versed in Lectra’s product development solutions, which is the industry standard",

The school has incorporated Lectra’s patternmaking and marker-making solutions, Modaris® and Diamino® into its curriculum. Students use them within the framework of the three-year fashion technology course that includes patternmaking.

"The innovative teaching methods of Polimoda’s Fashion Technology course, combined with Lectra’s technological solutions, are valuable for future patternmakers. This provides them with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills that will help them succeed in the complex and fascinating world of fashion,” concludes Mr. Venturi.

The partnership between Lectra and Polimoda has grown over the past years, and projects were developed to showcase their students’ work. In 2016, during Polimoda Fashion Week, Lectra awarded Samuele Fattori, a student specializing in fashion technology, for his creativity, technical abilities and sense of innovation.
